IMG_0688.JPGHIRDA provides access to vaccines for children in Somalia. HIRDA set up a Reach Every District (RED) team in the Gedo region to cover immunization and has partnered with World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and the local community to improve the general healthcare services. The RED-team consists of twelve members including a mobiliser, a register and a vaccinator. The team immunizes children in the Bardera district and administer vitamin A supplements, which contributes to a stronger immune system. Furthermore, the team conducts health talks on immunization, breastfeeding and basic hygiene. UNICEF provided training on immunization and supplied the necessary stock of vaccines. As a result 50.000 children received a vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, measles and polio.
