HIRDA Iftar program for Internally Displaced Persons in Somalia
During this Holy, HIRDA in partnership with Human Concern International (HCI), held a program of providing food items to vulnerable in Mogadishu and Kismayo to break their fasting period. The aim of this project was to provide basic human needs as food, water and sanitation to the internally displaced people in disaster areas.
HIRDA’s has a principle of assisting and supporting internally displaced persons (IDPS), reaching the needy and assist those affected by the hard living circumstances. It is HIRDA’s distinguished role and mission to alleviate the sufferings and improving the quality of lives of vulnerable people living in the IDP’s and with the experience its acquired overtime in emergency relief of local communities in different parts of Somalia. HIRDA leverages its expertise in relief services and is dedicated to caring and help the vulnerable groups.
This program was to Support the disadvantaged and destitute families in IDP Camps in, Mogadishu and Kismayo. The beneficiaries of this project were 130 IDPs households including men, women, children and elderly people who lived in the camp. The children go around cities and do small tasks like shining shoes, washing cars, garbage collection, washing dishes at restaurants in order to buy food and important basic needs.
The main activities were selecting the beneficiaries of the project and preparing the list of beneficiaries, preparing ID-cards for the beneficiaries, arranging transportation, purchase food items from the market and get a large banner for the project.
Within this program,130 households received food items such as Sugar, Date, Flour, Oil and Rice. Each family got 12.5 kg per item except date and Oil which are 8kg and 7 liters respectively. The food was distributed in a pleasant environment, the beneficiaries’ worries of hunger among the poor were reduced and they were satisfied with the food deliveries.
